Webinar: Using Modular Systems for Production Test

Test & Measurement World’s own contributing editor, Larry Desjardin moderates a discussion between Luke Schreier of NI, Jessy Cavazos of Frost and Sullivan, and Mike Dewey of Geotest.  Recorded on December 13, 2012, the group tackles some common questions on modular test, such as why choose modular over traditional instruments? What test fixtures are available? What is the software experience like? For the final 15 minutes they also answer questions posed from the audience. If you missed it, don’t worry. The webinar is now available “On Demand”, and is 60 minutes in total length. Just go to the link here, fill out the short registration form, and start watching.

North Pole: Modular Instrument Success Story

This week I have a very special guest blogger write for my “Outside the Box” column- Santa Claus! Yes, the fat man himself. What is the North Pole’s most famous resident doing writing for a publication like Test and Measurement World? As it turns out, he runs quite a factory there. He has recently switched to VXI, PXI, and AXIe. He has some very unique needs that only modular instrumentation can fill. To find out what finally saved Santa from outsourcing the whole effort to the South Pole, read the entire story here.

Ho ho ho!

50 minutes to become an expert in modular instrumentation?

Well, maybe not an expert, but knowledgeable enough to become dangerous. I was asked by Test & Measurement World to create an on-line course entitled Fundamentals of Modular Instrumentation. It’s done, it’s on-line, and it’s free! Designed for test engineers and managers, this course presents an introduction to modular instrument systems, with a particular focus on PXI.  The course explores the basic components of a modular system and key considerations when choosing products.  It also shows how modular instruments may be integrated together with traditional instruments.  National Instruments is the sponsor of the course, and supplied two case studies. The course concludes by examining the two case studies, and using the knowledge presented earlier in the course, analyzes the architectural choices made and why the PXI architecture proved successful.  This course is a must-view tutorial for anyone considering deploying a PXI-based modular system. Find it here.
